My wife just got a new laptop and I want to copy all of her music files and iTunes library over from her old laptop which is running Windows XP, over to her new laptop which is running Windows 7 (64 bit).
I tried just copying her entire "My Documents" folder which had her Music folder in it, which also included her iTunes Library folder, over to an external hard drive, then moving all of her mp3's and the iTunes Library folder over to the new laptop. iTunes populated her library and playlists well enough, but the problem is that the mapping to the actual music files themselves seems to have broken. Whenever she clicks a song to play and error message will display saying that iTunes could not locate the file, and will ask me to locate the file manually to map it. Obviously I don't want to do this for over 3,000 songs! :o
Ideally there would be a way to just have iTunes remap all the songs properly to the new pathways en mass. Is there a way to do this? Or barring a simple way to do that, is there a correct way to move all her mp3's and iTunes Library over from Windows XP over to Windows 7 and have everything be mapped and recognized properly?
Thanks in advance for your assistance. :)
