Breathing new life into old laptop

I have an old Dell XPS M1350 laptop (Intel T7500 2.2 GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM, 160 GB HD, Nvidia GeForce 8400M GD) that I've kept around for travel and taking to friends' houses when I'm called for computer help. It meets my needs for what I use it for, but quite a while ago I came across a good deal on a 120 GB SSD (OCZ, SATA III) and thought I'd use it to improve the laptop's performance. I'm just getting around to playing with these together. The laptop is 32 bit Vista MC, but I think I may have a Win 7 Home ? bit license around. Other than not defragging an SSD, are there any other gotcha's to maintaining a system with them? Would it make sense to upgrade the laptop to Win 7 vs Vista? Can an SSD be partitioned like a HD so that I could dual boot with either Vista, or Win 7? If so do I need a special boot manager or will the BIOS simply ask which O/S I want to boot? Any tips and pointers would be welcome as well as links to documentation covering this journey. Thanks so much!
