I bought an SSD drive, my first one. I got a SanDisk Ultra Plus 256G. My Windows 7 Home Premium is the upgrade version. I didn't think it would do it, but I didn't want WinXP on the drive. But it did what looks and acts like a full install. I didn't know you could do that. It didn't ask me to insert a previous version of Windows CD so it could verify I could use it.
The only caveat in the install was it told me my product key was invalid. I knew this could happen because in the past, when I did hardware upgrades, it would say it and I would have to call MS and get a new one. But I don't know why they can't look me up in the database since I'm a registered owner user. I called Microsoft yesterday about it and I got a guy with a foreign accent and couldn't understand most of what he said. How many times do I have to say, "Beg your pardon?". He told me the product number is not valid, and seemed to be saying that if I installed WinXP first it wouldn't be a problem. He said the product number was wrong for the version of Windows 7 that I have. Really?! What's up with that?
What are your thoughts?
