I have a laptop with a dying (dead) hard drive. I am restoring to a new drive from the factory image at the moment.
My question is what information is on the "system drive" versus the main data drive? I took a full backup of my system just the other day (system and C:) to Acronis True Image, but when I tried to restore to my old drive I got errors due to the corrupt system (Lenovo diagnostics said corrupt boot image). So, if I have a clean restore to a brand new drive, is there any reason to reinstall everything or can I just restore the Acronis image of the "C" drive and be good to go.
I guess I am wondering if Windows Update write to the system disk and whether I need to manually reapply the numerous Windows patches.
