The POS PC at my wife's business developed a serious PITA problem tonight. WE use MozyPro to backup the POS files and a few other folders every night. I happened to stop in and found out that the backups had stopped running a week ago. There was a new version of the program that needed to be installed and for some reason didn't auto update. I installed that and then got a popup that there was a new update for Avast anti virus, whihc I also installed. That install required a reboot. After the reboot, the system won't show any icons on the desktop under both my admin account and the standard user account that is what everyone else uses. I can boot into Safe Mode and things seem fine. I'm posting this from there. I'm also doing an online virus scan from Eset.
I tried going back to a restore point from yesterday when everything was working, but the same problems persist. I can't bring up the Task Manager when I do a normal reboot. Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't do anything when the blank desktop appears. HELP!
