this question pertains to Server 2008 R2.
I have an issue where explorer crashes when clicking jpgs. If I right click them anywhere, it crashes. If I left click them once in an explorer window (i.e. a window that shows the file properties at the bottom), it crashes. If I select a jpg and press the delete key, explorer crashes.
I can open the files by double clicking from the desktop, and I can delete them by dragging them to the recycle bin. Right clicking them will crash everywhere though. It doesn't seem to be a thumbnail problem; turning thumnnail view on doesn't crash explorer until I click the file.
It seemed to be happening to all jpgs but I just downloaded the google logo and it doesn't happen to that. Every jpg I can find on the computer (and even other servers!) will crash it though. And the files themselves don't seem to be corrupt. They are handled just fine by other servers.
I'm currently running panda antivirus and malwarebytes overnight on the server so I can report those results in the morning. I just wanted to get this thread out there in case someone knew what was going on.
edit: I forgot, but here's the details from the crash dialog:
