I cloned a hard drive today with Acronis TI on an HP EliteBook 2760p and all went smooth except for one weird quirk I came across. Once I booted Windows for the first time with the SSD, it detected and installed drivers for the SSD and then needed a reboot to continue.
When the laptop rebooted, at the post screen, it says "boot device not found please install an operating system on your hard disk". At that point I have to shut it off with the power switch and when I turn it back on, it goes to the HP diagnostics (I cloned all the partitions - HP recovery, HP Tools, and C drive). I just hit escape and exited the HP diagnostics without running any tests and then Win 7 boots up like nothing happened.
I tried a few things and noticed it only does this when you restart the machine. If you shut it down completely, it starts up perfect every time and if you let it sleep it also starts every time. It only does this whenever you reboot. I also went into the bios and got rid of all the options other than "Notebook HD" in the startup options thinking maybe it was trying to boot to something else first but still no good. Not that this would affect it but I also checked and all the partitions are properly aligned.
If anyone has any ideas on what in the Windows reboot sequence might be causing this please let me know. Any info is appreciated.
