Hi all,
A few months ago I finally entered the smartphone realm and discovered that my computer has a hotspot program to allow my cable connection to be shared wirelesly. Since my mobile data usage is metered, this would be great for when I'm at home.
When I enable the hotspot program and connect to it with my phone, everything works great except for one thing. When I use the YouTube app on WiFi, within a minute or two the connection just dies. The WiFi status icon continues to tell me that the connection is active, but it isn't. I have to turn off WiFi on my phone, turn off the hotspot and then turn everything back on again.
When I watch YouTube videos on the phone's web browser while connected to the WiFi the connection doesn't crash and it works just fine (and no ads!). Why would just the YouTube app cause my WiFi connection to die and the YouTube website not? I'd prefer to use the app.
Also, I used a hotspot feature built in to Linux Mint 17 and I actually was able to use the YouTube app with no crashing of the connection. Also, the connection seemed alot more stable. My WiFi connection will just die randomly sometimes under Windows and it will definitely die if I use the YouTube app.
Can someone please shed some light on this issue? I've been trying to figure this out and fix it for a while now.
