[Outlook] Changing Outlook delete behavior

Is there a way to change what goes in the deleted items folder? I know you can "Shift-Del" in the inbox to permanently nuke something, but I am looking for something a bit different. My wife has three accounts in Outlook, one for business correspondence and two Gmail accounts that are mostly personal. She gets a lot of crap in the Gmail boxes from various shopping sites and such and the bulk of those messages tend to overwhelm the deleted items folder. She does have the items segregated into separate folders based on an arrival rule that takes new messages out of the inbox and moves it to the other folder. Is there a way to set-up Outlook such that items from the inbox get stored in the deleted items folder while mail removed from the other folders is permanently deleted? I tried to use the rule manager to create a rule that permanently deletes messages, but the only available triggers are "when a message arrives" and "when I send a message" so that doesn't give me what I need.
