I have a Win7 Pro computer with a 1Tb hard drive partitioned in C and D. C is mostly OS and programs; D is data with shares and user security defined on folders.
I would like to replace the C drive with a SSD. How can I do this and retain the shares and security on the D drive?
I was thinking of:
1. Clone entire drive1 (C and D) to a new drive2 using Acronis.
2. Delete the D partition from drive2 and C partition from drive1.
3. Clone drive2 to SSD drive 3 (it will fit now, since the D drive is gone)
4. Put the SSD (C partition) and drive1 (D partition) in the computer
Will the D partition retain the shares and folder security?
Is there a better way?
