I am running a fully patched Win7 Pro / SP1 installation with 8GB of RAM. I frequently have a problem with AUDIODG.EXE sucking up several Gigs of memory and causing the fan to switch to high mode, even when I am not running sound apps. Apparently this is known to Microsoft and they published a hotfix at this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981013
I attempted to download and install the hotfix, but the installer said it did not apply to my system which is strange because I am running Win 7 and I have not previously installed the hotfix.
I have also checked the Lenovo site for driver updates, and it looks as though I have the latest sound drivers for my Thinkpad T420. I can "fix" this by going into services and manually stopped Windows Audio and restarting the service but I really shouldn't have to do that.
Has anybody else slayed this dragon?
