CPU being underutilized after VM installation

I decided to try Windows 10 32 bit in a virtual machine. After setting up the VM, it seems like my CPU (Core i5 3320m @ 2.6GHz) won't clock over 1.20 GHz or go above 50% utilization, whether or not the VM is open. My system was previously very responsive, but is now very laggy. I have uninstalled the VM, but no improvement. The only other changes are that I enabled CPU virtualization (via BIOS) about 2 weeks ago. I ran Windows Update today. The problem started today, after installing and running the VM. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :) This is my main computer for school & work. My system: Lenovo x230T Laptop Core i5 3320m @ 2.6GHz 180gb Intel SSD 500 series 16GB DDR3 RAM Windows 8 64-bit Edit: The Windows 10 VM has been uninstalled but VMWare is still installed on my computer.
