I am trying to get a "used by everyone" PC with Windows 7 up and running again without doing a reformat/reinstall. Its been down for about a year and who knows what was installed prior to the problem. After multiple attempts (20+) I can occasionally get it to fully boot... in regular mode it hangs at the Microsoft Windows screen as the four color dots are swirling to create the Microsoft logo...when it doesn't boot in safemode it hangs at Loaded: \Windows\System32\drivers\CLASSPNP.SYS
Anyway I am still trying to remove the first malware I know of with Norton Power Erase, unfortunately the last successful boot was in safemode without networking,,,my bad,,,,
this is just a general question on something I noticed in several failed safemode attempts
I noticed as it's loading Windows Files booting into safemode there are
Loaded: \Windows\system32\drivers\xxxxxfilename.sys
Loaded: \Windows\System32\DRIVERS\randomfile.sys
etc...
anyway there is System32...system32.....Drivers.....DRIVERS.....and drivers....maybe more inconsistent capitalization in the file names. I have never noticed this before but I haven't really paid much attention, they usually scroll by so fast anytime I have entered safe mode I cant read them.
even the .sys and .SYS
is that normal?
