Running an old program on Windows 7?

I have Sierra Print Artist 8.0 and Windows 7 64 bit. Odd as it sounds I had it running great up until a few days ago. Then it started losing the CD drive and all sorts of problems so I figured I would just uninstall and reinstall it. Problem is that I remember that when I originally installed it years ago I had to do some funky stuff to get it working, and for the life of me I don't remember what that was :( So now I installed it and it's not working. Additional info: The problem I am having is that the program opens up and runs but if you click to open a type there is supposed to be a list of file types there and the list is blank. The list needs to be populated with choices or the program can't work. I changed the compatibility mode to XP and tried to run as administrator. There is an update for it to update the program from 8.0 to 8.2 and after doing some research it appears as though the update might resolve this issue. Problem is that when I run the update it says that it is 32 bit and not suitable for 64 bit OS. So either that's not the problem or somehow I got it to run last time. If I did I sure can't remember how the heck I did it. Anyone have any ideas?
