My boss hands me her surface, asks me to fix it. Word will not run. Stalls at step 1 on the splash screen.
I flail about and find a help line i can call. The CS on the other end remotely probes the surface. He shows me the stopped services, and the 65% corrupt message.
He then runs netstat and shows me that there are 2 connections listed as foreign. He says I need to secure the network with his security service plan. I say "no thanks,
the services will restart on reboot". He says "no they wont". While i was powering it down, i saw the CS rep finishing up his troubleshooting session. I got it to power off after 3 attempts and I gave it back to my boss and said try it. Later she said "it's fixed". Did the CS rep do some magic to fix the services to restart on reboot? My boss says she rebooted it 3 times with no luck. Is there truth to his warning that likely there are intruders doing damage on the 2 foreign connections? Can i do something to investigate the foreign connections further, and are there some security measures i should get Optimum Business to deploy on our router? Thanks
