We have mobile users. Sometimes those user's computers need to be in for service and they need to pick up a loaner computer until we're done with theirs. Those loaners computers...since they're cheap and don't need to be anything pricey nor have large HDDs, we were thinking of using Chromebooks. I have 2 for testing. And OWA works fine, Sharepoint is good. But there are a few drawbacks.
One is...
We use a site that requires Silverlight. And on that site there are forms to fill out with patient information. And it only works (properly) with IE. Other browsers work with it, but only up to a point and then you'll have issues.
I'm pretty sure there isn't a extension that emulates IE natively on the chromebook. And I did notice there is a virtual browser extension for them, that redirects to a site that houses the VR browser. And it works fine. The site our users need to use even pulls up with no issues. But I have a concern with this. Since the VR browser is on someone else's server, I'm sure it's not secure.
The question here is, how exactly could I create our own in house VR browser so that our users could be redirected to it, and still be HIPAA Compliant since it would be on a server on our network, rather than some where else?
The other is shared network drives...
How can they access these from a Chromebook? There is no way to map them.
Maybe these things are what makes this device unusable for certain businesses.
