Creating and hiding partitions

I have an HP Pavilion g4-1117dx running under Win 7 Home Premium. Since I have (I presume) an intact and fully functional recovery partition, I'm thinking about doing a clean install from scratch. Which should be pretty trivial based on what I've read. However, once the install has finished, I'd like to do some extra things. a) create a small (~64 GB) data partition for the purpose of holding backups b) hide the above partition, so at the very least, one need to go into disk manager to see something c) I also want to hide the recovery partition Questions: 1) Is it possible to carve out 64GB from C, while keeping the recovery partition functional? ( = hitting F11 will start the recovery process!) 3) What's the best way to hide partitions? Obviously, if needed, I need to be able to 'unhide' them. Preferably, do it in a way that cannot be changed in any way from Disk Manager. I have GParted, if that matters. This laptop is supposed to be a X/mas present for my daughter, and while she is not computer literate enough to be dangerous, her brother supposedly is. :uhh: Currently, the drives look like this, and my goal is to have only one visible drive plus the DVD writer. [ATT=1] 3) Lastly, does anyone know what Q is doing there? TIA -- .sig
