Had to do a bit of work to even get Windows 10 to download via Windows Update, this basically involved running a repair of the update process. At the end of this I set the AllowOSUpgrade=1 as recommended without success. I was able to download a Windows 10 on the second try. Now the Windows Update log file seems to have turned into a set of repeated lines.
After I download the .iso file, I found that it was not usable for installing a "free" version of Windows 10. So, on Sunday morning I started the MediaCreationTool and told it to update this pc and then I went out of town for three days. When I came home I it was clear the update failed and the repeated theme of failure is a timeout with the Microsoft servers. Prior to the current state of the log file, the automatic update process would always fail with the server timeout issue.
FYI: My network speed is roughly:
This is end of the line ATT in a rural area, they will fix/upgrade nothing.
I guess the question boils down to this, if I cannot successful connect to MS, the Windows 10 free upgrade is not gonna happen, is it?
