Here's the deal.. I went ahead and let my Win 8.1 system upgrade to 10 - to future proof so I can eventually do a clean reinstall later on.
Right now I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 8
That appears to be impossible now.
It starts out installing 8, but somewhere along the line a download is made and when the system finally comes up, instead of a fresh install of Windows 8, it tells me that I am running Windows 10.
I have tried this twice now - both times on clean (wiped) disks. The second attempt I left the ethernet disconnected. I could only get so far in the install where it would not go any further until it saw it had Internet connectivity. As soon as it's plugged in it starts downloading "critical updates". I suspect this is where the switch to 10 happens.
I DO NOT WANT WINDOWS 10.
PERIOD.
Do I need to go out and buy a new motherboard just so I no longer have a "registered" computer in order to stay at 8?
How the hell does one install Windows 8 and only Windows 8?
