I have a Dell computer that blew its mother board. Its not worth fixing so I have purchased a new Dell. Both the old and new run Windows 7 (special order from Dell).
The old dell has two hard drives. The normal C drive and another drive I used for backups using the Windows backup program. The backup was run the day before the system blew up.
So at first I thought I could just put the old C drive in the new computer and boot from that. But it looks like that won't work?
So I guess I can install the old backup drive in the new computer and run the Windows backup/restore program on the new computer that will fetch the files from the old drive.... right? If so that should restore all the document, picture and music files along with most of the system settings such as favorites in Internet Explorer, email settings and email in Windows live mail, startup screen, etc.?
Any advice for me before I start?
Thanks for any thoughts you want to share.
