Windows Update history lost

Today I had occasion to restore from backup one of the computers in the house (backup = Windows Home Server 2011). So far so good. One anomaly is that the Windows Update history is missing (as shown through the WIndows Update GUI). The information seems to exist: 'wmic qfe list brief' shows a bunch of stuff, and Windows Update finds almost nothing new to install. On the other hand, all the ignored-update data was gone and had to be reentered. Can anyone explain this? And is there some way to rebuild the list? And is this anything more than cosmetic. This is somewhat worrying since the circumstances around the need to restore were (a) an indefinite hang at 'installing updates,100% complete, don't power off' after a reboot, followed by (b) me giving up after a long wait, and powering off. Windows 7.
