Dell XPS 8700 3.60 gigahertz Intel Core i7-4790 12 GB memory
purchased new 9/2014 updated 12/5/2015
The download took 30 min on my 12 MB DSL connection. The install took 1 hr 15 min with the machine restarting 3 or 4 times...I lost count. By the time it got to the end and displayed the "We've updated your PC" message, the wheel of spinning dots was moving so slowly it was making almost no progress at all. I've seen this before on 8.1 and did a hard shutdown, then restarted.
It booted quickly and went straight to the desktop after I logged in. The desktop was black (my previous blue desktop did not appear), so I selected a new Win 10 background and moved on. The CCleaner program did not migrate for some reason and had to be reinstalled. The desktop icon for Libre Office was missing and had to be replaced, but LO was still pinned to the taskbar...go figure. The next step was to start IE11 and make sure my Citrix app still works (it does), which was my biggest concern since I telecommute. My Officejet 4500 still prints. Hope it will still fax but I'll find out later. Then I shutdown for the night.
Upon booting the computer next morning, the blue desktop that was missing before returned like the prodigal son, with no prompting from me...go figure. So far, the one bug that I had on 8.1 (unexplained freeze when computer left idle) has not returned...hope it's gone for good.
Haven't done much with Win 10 yet, but it seems to work okay which is all I care about. Liking or not liking it is completely irrelevant to me. Win 10 is the sixth OS I've used since starting in 1993 with 3.1. The corporate policies of M$ are always going to be a PITA and Win 10 is no different. I've already been nagged once about linking a credit card to my M$ account, as if they think I'm anxious to start giving them money. They're going to have a long, long wait.
