Remote friend, so can't actually see the laptop. Was doing the upgrade to win10 from win8.1. Left it to do it's thing. Seems screen was blank so one of the kids unplugged it to plug their stuff in. Nobody noticed and overnight the battery went dead. Doesn't boot. I think it tries, but stuff isn't right. I can't even tell which OS is trying because he kind of freaks out and I can't understand him. They don't have lots of extra money to take it somewhere to get fixed.
So, my question is, does Win10 do anything to the restore partition on a laptop? I'd like to just tell him how to do a full restore to 8.1 from that. But not sure what happens to restore partition. It's an HP, but can't remember the model. Bought a couple years ago.
