I've run into a routing issue when using dual networks (WAN + LAN) and routers on each network. The WAN is a typical corporate network with outbound network web access. The LAN is...well a LAN. Up until recently, the LAN only had 1 subnet, and all was well. Through some reconfiguration, the LAN is now multiple subnets with a gateway processing data between the subnets (still no external access, no NAT).
If the computer is only connected to the LAN, I can access all of the all of the subnets as the LAN gateway is passing the data appropriately. As soon as I connect to the WAN, I can only access 1 subnet on the LAN (no data being passed through the LAN gateway).
Through searching various forums and knowledge bases, I've tried adjusting the "Interface Metric" on the network card advanced TCP/IP settings, as well as the connection priority order. Both have made changes in how the computer handles the network access, but doesn't affect this specific issue.
The LAN and WAN have no overlap in IP addresses (WAN 10.40.x.x, WAN Gateway 10.40.x.1, LAN 192.168.x.x, LAN Gatway 192.168.0.1). Trying to ping to another subnet on the LAN results in "TTL expired in transit" and doing a traceroute goes down the WAN path instead of LAN, eventually timing out.
So, I'm stumped. Any ideas on where to look next?
