safe to remove windows.old prior to 30 days timer?

Just wondering for the need to keep windows.old at all, in my case. Prior to doing the upgrade path for Win10 I made a restore system image of my Win7 system (boot CD and put the image on an external USB drive). I did this in case the upgrade went horribly wrong. I could always load the restore image. Well, the upgrade went fine. I changed all the privacy options I could, did an update to get all the fixes since 1511 was released last year, and started testing. Aside from some completely unexpected and seemingly spontaneous reboots everything is fine (although the reboots are troubling !!!!!!). Now I figure I could remove all of windows.old (or as much as I can - others have reported trouble in removing it entirely). Doing this to recover lost space and reduce the number of files. Thought I'd check for any thoughts on this from anyone here.
