My Start menu just stopped working the other day. Not only the Start menu, but some of the metro/touch style apps refused to launch as well. There is much discussion on the interwebs about similar issues. I can promise you that I've gone through all sorts of steps involving sfc /scannow, dism repairs etc, etc. I even ran a recommended batch file that totally hosed my system. None of those things worked... But a system restore did fix the issue. The problem was that the issue would return within a day or two, after a reboot. I realized that the problem was returning directly after system updates during shutdown. After much trial and error, a process of elimination. I have pinpointed the update that's causing the problem:
KB3156421
I am 100% sure. I have done all available updates. Problem is then present. I go in, and remove this specific update, and reboot, the start menu starts working again. The trouble is, Windows 10 mandatory automatic updates. I'm looking for a way to block just this single update. Microsoft provides a show/hide tool, but it only allows you to disable driver updates, not any of the other updates. Does anyone know how to block a specific Windows 10 update? Or any other advise on how to solve this?
