Windows 7 Professional. I have a Netgear R7000 router and plugged an external HD into the USB 3.0 port. The router sees it. My network share that it created is named \\readyshare\USB_Storage
So here's the dilemma. I have disabled a lot of services on my computer that I typically don't use. When I go to start, run, and type in \\readyshare\USB_Storage, it says Windows cannot access the drive.
I've re-enabled:
1. DNS client
2. Function Discovery Provider Host
3. Function Discovery Resource Publication
4. UPnP Device Host
Let me know if I can disable any of these. I like my processes to be less than 40. Any suggestions on what to try or what to re-enable?
Network Discovery is on for my home profile. If I turn on file and print sharing, it keeps turning off. Not sure if I need to even bother trying to re-enable that. I also shut Windows Firewall off.
PS. I bought a 4TB Seagate external hard drive. Will it wear out the HD if I leave it plugged into the router if it's constantly accessed? It doesn't even have a power cord, just powers through the USB cord when plugged in.
