Hi, a few years ago I purchased a Toshiba Laptop with MS Vista. This laptop has been used very little and has now become stuck in an endless Startup Repair Loop.
I was doing a bit of gaming when my game froze. Ctrl+Alt+Del wouldn't allow me to end the game, nor would anything else I tried and since the laptop was frozen for more than 5 minutes or so, I decided to hold down the power button to reset it.
Upon restarting, the laptop hung at the Microsoft Windows loading screen for about 10 minutes or so, after which I tried to reset it again. On the next reset, it started CHKDSK automatically, which I allowed to run. It found a handful of errors and said it was discarding the files and repairing Windows.
CHKDSK finished, but said it wasn't able to repair the disk. Afterwards, it restarted and ran Startup Repair, which also failed.
I found a tutorial online that attempted to fix the endless loop problem by using the REGBACK command and a few other things, but when I typed CD\Windows\system32\config as mentioned in the tutorial, it says not found on the drive (or something to that effect). It says the same for CD\Windows and CD\windows\system32. Having said that, it does show my Windows, Users and Program Files folders when typing DIR on C:. It shows these files as being pretty large, so I'm guessing they're still there, at least.
When that was a no go, I clicked the Restart button from within Startup Repair and after it restarted, I found myself in my current predicament.
At this point, Startup Repair runs over and over and nothing seems to be able to stop it. It fails every time and none of the advanced options like Command Prompt or System Restore will do anything, nor will it allow me to cancel the Startup Repair process, it simply runs over and over and says the operation can't be canceled.
If I click Command Prompt or System Restore, it gives me the option to restart after doing so, but every time the PC reboots, it goes right back into the Startup Repair loop, which fails to fix it each time.
I am also unable to boot into the Advanced Startup Options, by pressing F8, like safe mode or anything else. The menu simply doesn't come up when I press the key and it goes right back to the Startup Repair Operation.
I'd really like to save the data on this PC if it's possible (and based on my night, I'm guessing it won't be). I appreciate any and all help you guys might be willing to offer and I apologize for being long-winded, I was up all night messing with this PC issue and another issue on seperate PC that also decided to pop up at the same time. Thanks again.
