Windows 8 HP Pavillion Desktop
Linksys Router
OOL Cable modem
After a night of basic working on my desktop - no updating, no CCleaning, no new install I woke to see an exclamation point warning sign on the internet connectivity icon in the sys tray.
Rebooted the computer - no help
Unplugged modem and router, waited about 10 minutes and then powered up modem until all the required lights came on, powered up router - no help.
The port in the back of the router showed activity to my desktop and the actual ether net port on the back of the desktop blinks a bit to show activity there too.
The troubleshooter came back with the same error over and over
"Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration - Not fixed.
Released and renewed - nothing.
Made sure the adapter was set to receive address automatically.
I Googled for solutions and tried several of them but they all sort of said the same things as I already had done. I also tried making a static IP with no luck using similar settings as another computer but a different IP.

So I am still looking at that error on my work desktop computer and am typing from a laptop using the same wireless router.
No other computers or devices are having an issue.
