Hi folks,
I got a weird error yesterday when trying to run firefox, googleupdate and other connected applications.
Error - firefox.exe-Bad Image
C:\Windows\system32\netutils.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using hte original installation media or contact your system administrator or software vendor for support.
I also get a failed XPCOM error after closing that dialog box when trying to run firefox.
This happened after I ran a defrag app with nothing else being installed during the day.
The machine runs windows 7 ultimate 64bit.
Unfortunately my backup and system restore did not help because they ran yesterday and had captured the same corrupted files.
I also ran sfc /scannow after deleting both files to no avail.
I was able to fix it by getting a copy of the dll file from my other machine which is 32bit. copied both to system32 and syswow64. It's a solution for now, but I feel that it is inelegant.
My questions are:
Could someone with a similar 64bit OS check to see if netutils.dll in the system32 and syswow64 folders are the same?
Could you please post the version number that you have?
Is this DLL part of a the main windows install or is it part of .NET or maybe Visual C++ redistributable that I could reinstall?
Thanks in advance.
