Okay, this is weird -- think it belongs in the Microsoft Forum rather than Security, however. Running Win7 Home Premium on a Lenovo 560 laptop.
Any attempt at keyboard entry in Skype, Outlook, or any of four different browsers immediately reduces the app to 'Not responding'. This includes attempting to enter a URL in a browser. In fact, simply depressing the SHIFT key will render these apps inoperative. Notepad works just fine, as does the Start menu. Mouse works fine.
There's no indication of any infection or corruption.
This occurred after installing this week's Windows update (all of the critical ones). Attempts to revert to an earlier checkpoint in Windows Restore fail consistently.
Any suggestions on corrective action?
