Everyone,
I did not want to add this to the Windows 8.1 thread, as I have specific questions that I have not seen answers to yet, or have not been able to find a way to change things like I did in Windows 8.
Most of these have to do with the Start Screen, and options that were present under Windows 8, that appear to no longer be available under Windows 8.1
The first has to do with the color options of the start screen. Under Windows 8, you made your changes to the start screen (Background style and color). For reference of that process, you can see the following webpage. Look at the section "How To Change The Windows 8 Start Screen Background"
http://www.technorms.com/30980/change-windows-8-start-screen-background
In my case, when I installed Windows 8, I took whatever the default was, and modified it later. My modification was to pick the color "brown" which was the 5th item from the left on the color bar section, which is this image . The default option is what is currently selected.

The end result for me, under Windows 8.0 was the following
Start Screen

All apps screen

I know under Windows 8.1, there are new options, which allow you to use your current desktop image for the background, which you can enable/disable from the "Taskbar and Navigation Properties" window, as shown below.

However, I cannot seem to find the place in Windows 8.1 to modify just the color as I did in Windows 8.0. I was given the same option during the install of Windows 8.1 as to what color I wanted, but it appears that if I want to change it to something other then what I selected during the install, my only option appears to be to use my current desktop image.
Right now, this is what my Start Screen looks like under Windows 8.1

So, my first question then is this: If I want to just change the background color of the start screen from Blue to something else, and not make it the same as my desktop background, is there a way to do that?
The next thing I noticed is that under Windows 8, all of the icons on both screens had the same color behind them (in my case, a lighter shade of brown). However, under Windows 8.1, they don't all have the same color. If you look again at my current Windows 8.1 screens, you notice that some of my icons have a red color behind them, some are gray, some are blue, and so on.
My 2nd question then has to do with the icon color background. Is it possible to change that background color so they are all the same?
The next thing I noticed that is different is that new applications (or I should say new icons) that get created in the start screen folder (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs) do not automatically get "pinned" to the first Start Screen. If you want something pinned, you have to do it yourself. I actually like that, as I may not want all of the icons that get created on my Start Screen (outside of the All Apps area). Not to mention, I do a LOT of customization to the All Apps section, and it was very annoying to have to unpin every shortcut that I put there during my customization of Windows 8. So, this difference is a good one, and one that I did not see mentioned yet.
Finally, I have a question about the word "New" that appears next to icons on the All Apps part of Windows 8.1 To show what I'm talking about, here is a close up of one of my icons from the All Apps screen

Notice the words "NEW" in blueish text under the name of the shortcut. How long will that icon be "new"? Is there some thing that I can do to make it not new anymore?
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this, and providing any help or suggestions for my questions.
