wuauserv bogging down W7-64

Lately, the wuauserv service has been taking lots of CPU % and temps on laptop CPU have risen.. Doesn't seem to be doing anything (No downloads occurring) but it's still running...and eating up Processes... continually I've stopped the service, and things return to normal (Greater System Idle Process % ---- Less CPU Temps) ......... until next bootup.... I thought I had a solution by using the command line: net stop wuauserv Except that prevents Microsoft Security Essentials from updating... Which doesn't seem to happen when I manually stop the service.... Seeing that I know when Patch Tuesday is..... I know when to manually let Windows Update: wuauserv go..... and do it's thing... Anybody know of a way to stop wuauserv on every bootup without limiting MSE from updating? PS: W10 is not an option :)! -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle

[WIN10] Edge...what the hell

I have been using Edge as the default browser since I upgraded to Windows 10 last summer. I finally had enough of it and decided to make Chrome my default browser today. Why? I am so sick of getting the hour glass in Edge. If I tab to a different app and tab back to Edge, hourglass. Even after page is loaded, I will go to scroll down or up, and I get the hour glass. WHAT IS IT DOING? I didn't have this problem with IE. Am I the only one that thinks Edge is garbage?

I figured it was time to start a new thread on this issue. I made a reference to this error in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update Feedback Topic, but I think the troubleshooting / research and hopefully resolution belong in their own thread. As the title says, since installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (Version 1607, OS Build 14393.10) I have been getting the following error logged in the event viewer. [attachment=1] Here is the XML version as well Event Xml:<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-Search" Guid="{CA4E628D-8567-4896-AB6B-835B221F373F}" EventSourceName="Windows Search Service" /> <EventID Qualifiers="49152">3104</EventID> <Version>0</Version> <Level>2</Level> <Task>3</Task> <Opcode>0</Opcode> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2016-08-21T00:03:16.277102800Z" /> <EventRecordID>3371</EventRecordID> <Correlation /> <Execution ProcessID="0" ThreadID="0" /> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>BRIAN-DESKTOP</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data> Details: (HRESULT : 0x80040210) (0x80040210)</Data> </EventData></Event> I can re-create the error on demand by going to the index options inside of control panel, then clicking on the "Advance" button, and then clicking on "Rebuild". [attachment=2] Doing that will cause 4 of those errors to appear. I do want to point out that it does not matter what files/folders I select for the Indexed Locations. In this case, I have none, yet it still fails with the same error. I can select a folder with just 4 files, or I can select an entire directory tree (my user folder, for example), and I can get the same error. I also know that at some interval, my PC will automatically try to re-index things, and that will also cause the same errors to show up. So I am confident that it has to do with the index. I am just unsure on how to fix it. I did notice that on the advance screen, it lists the Index location as "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft". I noticed that a file is not listed, nor does it have a sub-folder, like "Windows Index" or something listed. Even if I do select stuff to index, I don't see any file(s) or folders get created at that location. Could that be why? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. --Brian -- ============================ --Brian Plencner E-Mail: CoasterBrian72Cancer@gmail.com Note: Kill Cancer to Reply via e-mail

[WIN10] Anniversary Update Bug?

I'm hoping this is simply a Horrible Coincidence, but perhaps others have had this issue before? Shortly after installing the Anniversary Update on my system, I received a random BSOD and my system would no longer boot up. I received the "Non-System Disk or Disk Error" message from BIOS. I was able to fix my issue by putting my SSD into another system, updating the firmware, and replacing the SATA cable. However, my ex-wife just contacted me today (who is also running Windows 10) and is having the exact same problem. She also has an SSD but I believe it's a different brand than mine. She has a HP Business Tower with an i7-3770K and I have a custom built i7-6700K, so the only thing really in common is that we are both running Windows 10, SSD's, Intel CPU, and both recently installed the Anniversary Update. Her system uses regular BIOS with MBR on the SSD, whereas my system is UEFI and my SSD is GPT. Horrible Coincidence, or perhaps a bug? Anyone else heard of this issue? Thanks in advance.

I usually use Chrome. I'm streaming a movie in Chrome and I keep getting Shockwave Flash plugin crashes - an old issue that has supposedly been resolved, but it's not on my new computer. Windows 10 Anniversary. Updated Chrome. So I'm trying to use Edge with AdBlockPlus - needed for the movie stream. Can I Cast to my Google ChromeCast from Edge? This morning I started my PC and I get a message Windows is updating; 40 minutes later and 4-5 restarts its over. I tried to log in with my pin and it was 'wrong" I logged in with my Password and was able to back to my desktop, then to settings. In settings I tried to reset my pin (preferred way to log on), The problem here is to change your pin you need to provide your old pin for authentication. But my pin was disabled by this &&**^% update. Looks like I having a Windows moment! After a google search, I was able to delete the pin account and reinstate it, using the same pin and my coffee is now cold!! Dam updates. -- The privileges of being an American Citizen 1. [WIN10] Screenshots sometimes appear blurry

Windows 10 Anniversary. New computer. HP x360 with 1920x1080. Win10 DPI Fix enabled. Scaling 175%. I often send screenshots of Chrome in Facebook Messenger on Chrome. On my old computer, same HP x360, basically, with Win 10 (pre-anniversary) with the same display and DPI Fix running, I would just use ALT+PRT SC then paste the screenshot into FB Messenger on Chrome. If I then clicked the image from Messenger, it opened in the FB tab as an expanded image and it was fine. Now on my new computer, if I look at that screenshot image in the same way, it looks blurry. If I look at the same image on my Nexus 6 it looks OK. If I paste the image into Paint on Win 10, it looks OK. But when I open it from Chrome, FB in the message, it opens up and looks blurry...like an image that first shows up from online but then is supposed to improve its resolution in a few seconds after downloading more info. Others on the FB messenger report the same issue viewing my screenshot...looks OK on their phone, but looks blurry on PC browser. Could be a facebook issue, but the big change here is that I'm on a new computer with freshly installed Win10 so I'm trying to adjust so that pasted screenshots aren't blurry. (If I screenshot the same web page from Chrome on Android and paste to FB Messenger App on Android, the image looks OK on both phone and PC Win10 Chrome FB) Attached images show how it should look and how it does look. [WIN10] Bug in Anniversary update or Adobe Reader DC?

Our office is facing a weird bug. All of the PCs have Win 10. One of them upgraded to Anniversary. All computers also have latest version of Adobe Reader DC installed. On the computer with Anniversary, when printing PDF BB&T bank statements from clients, it will print with blackout lines on most of the lines of the statements. This happens regardless of which printer we send it to. Printing the same document on any of the other computers print normally. I uninstalled Reader on that pc and let Edge open the PDF file. Printing though Edge prints the file correctly. Reinstalled Reader and the same problem occurred. Can anybody reproduce this? Do you think it's a bug with Win 10 Anniversary or Reader DC?

If you have Windows 10 and you have the Anniversary Update installed, don't plug in an Amazon Kindle device via USB; it will BSOD your system! Yep, so we can add Webcamgate and Kindlegate to the list of issues that have come with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Kindle Can Crash Your PC After You Install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update | Thurrott.com said by Paul Thurrot :I'll just repeat what I've been saying all along: If Microsoft wants us to accept automatic updates without question, it needs to ship high-quality updates that do not break things. And so far, it is not living up to its end of this contract. You can complain all you want about Android or iPhone, but this is the type of thing that will really kill Windows. And the lack of trust that these kinds of mistakes engenders is irreversible.Yes, wholeheartedly yes! I can't agree him more! I hate this company! I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with Windows 8.1 ( 64bit ) installed. The tablet is not detecting any wifi connections. In the device manager there are no listings for network adapter. Usually, if the drivers are not installed, there would be a listing for network adapters with a yellow exclamation point, but it's not listed. I was told that the wifi worked before on the device.
