I'm on standalone computer configured on HOME (Private) network with router facing Internet. If I disable this service, will it impact my mundane Windows Media Player usage for music files on my computer or elsewhere through my browser.
The only thing I can say for certain is that I do not share over a setup network here. Period.
it has been sugguested...
If you do not share anything over a network then you may disable the windows media player network sharing service.
... follow these below provided steps and check.
a. Open services.msc and Navigate to - Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and Stop the service.
b. Open Folder options and check the option - show hidden files and folder.
c. Navigate to location C:\users\MyAccount\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player
d. Delete the Contents inside the Folder.
e. Navigate to c:\Users\Mcx1 folder and Delete the Contents of the Folder.
f. Open the Command Prompt in elevated mode and run the Commands - wmpnetwk.exe, wmpnscfg.exe and wmpshare.exe
g. Restart the Computer and check with Media Sharing in the Network and sharing center is getting turned on.
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND STEP "f." Why step "f." ?
[Also... I imagine I would have to change start up of WMP Network sharing from "Automatic(Delayed)" to perhaps "MANUAL" ??]
P.s. Disabling this service would perhaps prevent Windows Media Player from instantly identifying local mp3's and showing proper name of track and even picture of original album? In W7 I was impressed how WMP did this for a bunch of mp3 files with odd file names that did not actually identify song/author but WMP did it in seconds along with appropriate album cover. IF I DISABLE WMP Network Sharing Service does WMP stop this nifty little trick? Oh one last thing: would disabling the network service component affect library sharing between the computer users of this standalone computer? Probably not, huh?
