[WIN8] Automatic Maintenance questions

Everyone, As I continue to look at the errors that are generated every night, it appears that they are all taking place during the time that Automatic Maintenance is running on my system. If you want to jump to my question, skip down to "MY QUESTION HERE" in bold. :) If you recall this thread http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29361079-WIN8-qWindows-Updateq-running-something-when-it-appears-to-be-off-SOLVED the errors that I was trying to fix there were being generated during the Automatic Maintenance task of trying to update the installed Metro Apps. While I did resolve that, it looks like I have one more task that is trying to do something with Skydrive. This morning, I had these two events logged. Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM Date: 07/04/2014 5:40:24 AM Event ID: 10010 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: BRIAN-DESKTOP\Brian A. Plencner Computer: BRIAN-DESKTOP Description: The server {BF6C1E47-86EC-4194-9CE5-13C15DCB2001} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM Date: 07/04/2014 5:40:54 AM Event ID: 10010 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: BRIAN-DESKTOP\Brian A. Plencner Computer: BRIAN-DESKTOP Description: The server {1B1F472E-3221-4826-97DB-2C2324D389AE} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. I've done some research already on these, and here is what I have found. First, the time that these events took place was just after the Automatic Maintenance was running. If I go into Action Center, and then Maintenance, it says that Automatic Maintenance was last ran at 7/4/2014 5:39 AM. I'm guessing Automatic Maintenance takes longer then a minute to run, so these two errors were generated during the Automatic Maintenance task. If I go into the registry and search for the long ID's, I find that both are related to SkyDrive. Specifically looking at {BF6C1E47-86EC-4194-9CE5-13C15DCB2001} in the registry I find this description Automatic Maintenance task to enable SkyDrive file sync to make progress while in Connected Standby So this again leads me to believe that the errors are being generated by some task that is running as part of Automatic Maintenance. This leads me to my question MY QUESTION HERE While I understand the importance of leaving Automatic Maintenance on and running, is there a way to see what exactly it is doing? Like a log for example that spits out the different maintenance tasks that it is running, how long each one takes, and so on? This way, if a specific task of the maintenance process is not running, there may be a way to research that, and correct any issues. Or, if there is a way to see everything that it is doing, maybe there are other ways for me to run specific parts of it (like a defrag for example), if I don't want it to run all these performance items, things with apps I don't use (like Skydive), and so on. So far my research on this has not told me what I'm looking for. I get some generic items that it runs, but I cannot find a list of the exact steps that make up Automatic Maintenance. This is the description that it says inside of action center. quote:This includes tasks such as software updates, security scanning, and system diagnostics. Wow, that's real informative! :hmm: I don't want software updates to happen on their own, which is why I turned off automatic updates. For security scanning, I disabled Windows Defender as I have my own virus scanner installed (McAfee Enterprise). System diagnostics would be good, as that is probably where a disk defrag takes place, but I thought that ran on its own somewhere else (or was that how it was set up under Windows 7....don't remember). Anyway, if someone can provide some more information on Automatic Maintenance, that would be great.
