UPDATE: This is a rapidly changing case so please review the top post which is now resolved for background. Latest question will be my last post at bottom. thanks XP Pro SP2. HP Pavillion DV6000 line DV6408nr model laptop that originally had Vista on it but was given to a friend with no Windows installed. The specs according to the badges on the computer are: AMD Turion 64 K2 Mobile Technologhy Nvidia Graphics Broadcom Wireless I have installed XP from my slipstream SP2 DVD. I'm having trouble figuring out what's going on to network this computer. There's a physical slider toggle switch on the front edge for WIRELESS. It displays a red LED whether the switch is "on" or "off". In Device Manager, Network Adapters, it ONLY shows 1394 Net Adapter. It does not show a wireless card or the ethernet port. I haven't yet tried using the Ethernet port. Because the original badge on the machine says "Broadcom Wireless" I'm going to assume that the wireless was not some card in the expansion slot. There are panels on the bottom for RAM and HD, I guess, but I haven't opened them to look for wireless hardware. I also checked BIOS to make sure there was no setting that disabled networking or wireless. Why would both Wireless and Ethernet not show up in Device Manager, Network Adapters? -- YOU can help reduce poverty, sustainably. http://www.kiva.org/lender/kenandart
