Office 2016 and Broadwell CPUs -- INCOMPATIBLE

I have been having BSODs since I installed Office 2016 on my Gigabyte P34 laptop (i7-5700HQ, Win8.1 and/or 10). BSODs are security kernel failures, clock_watchdog_timeout, or machine check exception. They occur upon opening an Office component, creating a blank document, or saving one. It's fairly easily to quickly replicate. I tried reinstalling MS Office, running offcat, but nothing appears to help. Upon researching this, I found out it is quite a well-known issue with Broadwell CPUs: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2016-officeapps/bsod-from-office-2016-apps/ed4db953-47b0-4fbb-9837-553e6f44541e?auth=1 "several Broadwell users are having issues with software that uses the Intel Virtualization Technology (VT)" "There is nothing the end-user can do to eliminate the issue" "there is a particular Intel errata that lists this as a possible issue, and its status is "No Fix" (indicating that as of June 2015, there are no plans to fix this bug)" "this flaw apparently only inflicts the 5700HQ mobile processor, so it is probably not going to be high on intel's priority list" http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/458839-intel-broadwell-cpu-bsod-when-running-office-2016/ http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2016-office_install/bsod-machine-check-exception-office-2016-broadwell/bad807aa-13db-40cd-a555-da19bf55135a https://community.office365.com/en-us/f/172/t/409802 "It's a problem with Broadwell. Virtualbox, Linux and some games also crash on it. Unfortunatelly only MSI has made some changes in their laptop bios. But there're no updates to motherboards from MSI, ASUS and others. MS and Intel say nothing about it, imho this problem cannot be fixed or they don't want to fix." https://communities.intel.com/thread/84862 The Gigabyte BIOS is extremely locked down and has no CPU options to speak of. My next step will be reaching out to Gigabyte support to see about a BIOS update and then my academic institution to see if I can get MS Office 2013 through their HUP (they only offer 2016). I wanted to throw this out here to see if anyone else is having success with Office 2016 and Broadwell CPUs (especially mobile ones) and what your work-around was. - Kris -- 5760x1080@60Hz for the superior experience.
