.lnk "Link" files

This may be more of a rant than a question. Why does Windows prevent the creation of a Linked location ( .lnk file ) when the location is not available ? Worse yet, Windows will not allow you to correct an invalid link when that link location is not available. It's like "Yes, you stupid Windows, I know the link location is invalid. That is why I am trying to edit it. But no, you won't let me edit or correct the the wrong link location that is obviously not there... There have been numerous times that I am working on an office networked computer at the shop, when I would like to create all the network resource links for the native network, but I cannot due to the error of "Not Found". I'm like, yes you stupid fucking Windows, I know goddamned well that this shared folder is not available on my shop network, but it will work great as soon as I get the computer back to the office where the shared folder exists. Another "Gotcha" is when you change the location of a shared resource. All you need to do is change \\192.168.1.50\sherethis to \\192.168.1.60\share this, but hell no. Windows cannot find \\192.168.1.50\sharethis, so fuck you. Make a new shortcut. Edit - Clarify
