[WIN10] Hibernate or active?

Had a recent experience (mentioned in another thread) about being asked to install a print driver on a Win10 convertible (Toshiba tablet/notebook). Took an hour because of screw-ups between the Brother installer requesting a reboot, and pending win updates which also required a reboot. Culminated in a semi-non-responsive OS. My question is, what does Win10 do when you close the lid? My Win7 notebook 'suspends' or 'sleeps' or 'hibernates' (a feature that I never use, because Windows invariably fails to load some driver or other when it wakes up). But basically, the system is dormant. Now, on my Android table, closing the cover simply turns off the screen. The OS continues to operate and updates continue uninterrupted. So, what does Win10 do? Does it hibernate or is the OS still active on mobility devices (not phones).
