Missing Directory - Solved

I'm about ready to whigg out on this weird problem. The objective is to copy data from one hard disk to another. I create the target folder named m:\target1 From the command prompt I navigate to the source file location which is the root of D: From the root of D: I enter robocopy . m:\target1 /S /R:1 /W:1 Robocopy copies the recycle bin, desktop ini and then the next item is a 25 gig Macrium image file. After about 3 seconds into the copy of the image file the target folder disappears from view. Showing hidden files does not make it appear. CHKDSK reports no errors. 200 GB of data successfully copies. Free space on target drive is reduced by the amount of data. If I type m:\target1 into the browser bar it opens the target folder and all the data is there. M:\ shows as empty space. No folders at all. I put my data disk into a different computer and copy from it. The results are the same. Both host computers are a fresh install of W8.1. ( one computer is a clone of the other ) Source disk is SSD, target disk is a platter. Second computer is a different target disk. Same phenomenon.
